ANTIOCH — A man using a leaf blower stepped into traffic lanes and wound up at the hospital after a car hit him, police said.

The victim, apparently engrossed in his task, stepped out between two parked cars on to East 13th Street near Marie Avenue about 6:49 p.m., Antioch police Lt. Pat Welch said.

The driver was not hurt, nor cited. The crash seriously hurt the victim, whom paramedics flew to a regional trauma center.

Police expect the victim to survive.
